Gillett Square, Dalston N16 is a vibrant community space, home to various minority populations, especially those from the neighbourhood, including those from the ‘Windrush’ generation. This is a community space that welcomes all, its a place just to be, free of the demands of city living.
This was an opportunity to share the power of internal cultivation practices to this soulful community in the heart of the East End. A range of different modalities where introduced which included both Yoga and Meditation.
In order to support the community further, I am collaborating with Aina from Idia’s Community Kitchen based at Fellows Court Community Centre, Hoxton. Aina provides hot meals, clothing and household essentials to those in need. On a Sunday at 2pm opposite Dalston Kingsland Rail Station, one is taken aback by the stretch of people queuing for food; the young, the old, mothers with children and the disabled.
This is truly an exciting opportunity to support the local community through Yoga and Meditation to aid self empowerment and healing.
“WE ARE SUPPOSED TO HELP EACH OTHER. IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE THIS WAY.” -Elle (A volunteer @Idia’s Community Kitchen)
